The Three Escapees

The Three Escapees

A Wombat, Bat and Kangaroo, wanted to escape the zoo. They knew the things they’d need to do. With a good idea that was well thought through. They talked for days and drew a plan, choosing Bat as the lookout man. Wombat would ram the gate and knock it down, from all his weight. Then clinging onto kangaroo, they’d bound right out of that beastly zoo. They packed some fruit and ginger beer and waited till the coast was clear. The next day as the sun arose the three escapees gathered close. Beady eyes, scouted round, “It’s time,” said Bat, “don’t make a sound.” They waddled and bounced and flew to the gate, Where wombat rammed with all his weight. With a shudder, a shake and a snapping sound, that gate collapsed and fell to the ground. Once he saw the coast was clear Bat said, “Let’s get out of here! They’ll soon be on to us for sure and I won’t go back to jail, no more.” So off they sped at lightning speed. Bat was flying in the lead. The three escapees headed west, homeward bound, or so they’d guessed. The cars and trucks were zooming past and everything was moving fast. Honks and beeps and yelling too,at Wombat, Bat and Kangaroo. And then they heard the sirens wail, the keepers now were on their tail. “Come on!” cried Bat, “we’d better scram, before we cause a traffic jam.” He waved his wing to lead them on and with Wombat, firmly holding strong, to kangaroos’ red, bouncing back, they headed up a bumpy track. Through bush and brush, they flew and hopped. Through mud and sand, till Wombat dropped, “I’ll walk from here, thanks Kangaroo, I’ve been a burden since the zoo.” Soon they heard, from the skies, an aeroplane with prying eyes. They kept themselves close to the trees, such is the life of escapees...............
